History

Benson·Myles is a continuation of a partnership that was originally formed in 1980. Throughout the 1980s, the firm enjoyed rapid growth and expansion of its practice, and in the early 1990s the membership and practice was further expanded and enhanced by the addition of the members of 2 other firms with long-standing roots in the Newfoundland and Labrador legal community.

How We Work

We will designate a specific lawyer with appropriate expertise to take charge of every matter a client entrusts to us. The lawyer in charge can draw on the resources of the entire firm should either the urgency or the complexity of any particular matter require it.

The People

Benson·Myles consists of 16 Lawyers, 4 articled students, and 18 assistants and administrative staff. 9 Lawyers are partners of the firm. 4 members of the firm are Queen's Counsel and Two hold post graduate degrees. Offices are located on the 8th and 9th floors of Atlantic Place, Water Street, St. John's. The firm and each Lawyer utilizes the latest computer technology for both legal and administrative functions.

The Clients

Benson·Myles has a wide and varied clientele, providing legal services to individuals, corporations and a variety of agencies and organizations. Corporate clients include a major chartered bank, several public companies active both nationally and internationally, various insurance companies, many established Newfoundland and Labrador, other Canadian, and international corporations and several Newfoundlandand Labrador health care institutions and facilities and a number of health-related professional regulatory and disciplinary bodies. Litigation experience includes advocacy before various tribunals and all levels of courts, including the Supreme Court of Canada. In addition to their practice responsibilities, the firm's members are committed. to community service and many of them serve in voluntary capacities in community service organizations.
